In today’s society, film is seen as a major form of entertainment that can also be used to convey certain messages and themes. An aspect of film that is often missed or taken for granted is the impact of cinematography. Cinematography is the art of motion picture photography. Over the years, cinematography has proven itself to be a major contribution to film, furthering its artistic value and evolving as time changes. In the beginning, when film was still an emerging form of technology, expression of artistic ideas was not a main concern for filmmakers. In the 1890’s, Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas and Louis Jean Lumià ¨re, famously known as the Lumià ¨re Brothers, invented the Cinematograph. This invention was the first film camera. As cinematography was now emerging, new elements such as contrast, exposure and came ra techniques also came about. Contrast is very important lighting technique used by cinematographers. Contrast is defined by the ratio of light and dark in an image. In terms of cinematography, contrast plays an important role in that it determines the mood of the scene. High contrast for example would make the scene darker. While higher contrast expresses a darker mood like evil, low contrast can indicate good or innocence. In the 1962 film version of To Kill A Mockingbird, Cinematographer, Russell Harlan uses contrast in an interaction with Scout and Bob Ewell. While Scout is sleeping in a car, Bob approaches her and stares at her. The shot shows Bob’s face to be much darker than Scout’s; an example of high contrast. This difference can be interpreted as a sign of Bob’s evil nature and Scout’s relaxed, innocent personality. Another aspect of cinematography is exposure. Exposure is defined as how much light passes through the camera lens. Exposure is o ften used by cinematographers to direct the audience’s attention to one part of the screen, or to imply the mood of the scene (Cinematography). Writing is a process that is difficult to start, yet impossible to end. To sit down with a notebook and formulate the first thought that is notable can take a minute, but often takes me hours. My mind is very focused yet the focus of my thoughts wonders. Thus, to say that I was born to be a writer might just be the farthest from the truth. Now there is one large contradiction in that statement. Once I begin the writing process I have a tendency to get caught up in it. While my writing process as well as my writing style tends to vary based on topic and circumstance, my methods remain the same. I know that a course with such heavy writing will bring upon its own set of challenges, I hope to keep realistic expectations while utilizing my strengths as a writer in order to reach my course goals. High school was filled with formulaic essays that left little room for creativity; therefore, I have become accustomed to writing different sections of a paper in a certain order and in a specifi c manner. The first one is self-awareness which is to understand your own moods, emotions, and needs, as well as their impact on others. Second one is self-r egulation which is to control impulsiveness, calming down anxiety, and reaching with appropriate anger to situations. Third is motivation which is a passion to work for reasons in addition to money and status. The four is empathy which is to understand and respond to the unspoken feelings of others. And last is social skill which is competency in managing relationships, building networks of support, and having a positive relationship with people. These five factors of emotional intelligence is a very important aspect to a successful manager because it is the key factors in dealing with people and developing relations with the people and keeping the relations strong and long. As a manager of my company emotional intelligence is a very important aspect in having a successful company. To be a successful manager one must have the knowledge of all the aspects that were discussed throughout the paper. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates are perfect examples of successful managers.
